چکیده

Eight of the current sizing and design methods proposed for bioretention facilities were evaluated for rainfall runoff and snow storage volumes for a costal cold climate in Trondheim, Norway. The RECARGA bioretention infiltration model was used to compare the performance of the methods using 30 months of observed data from a pilot scale bioretention box. The surface areas, total ponding time, number and duration of overflow events, and snow storage volumes were compared. It was found that even in a costal cold climate with several intermittent melt cycles die snow storage requirements were an important design parameter, and if more than 25% of the total snow volume should stored this became the deciding design parameter.

An investigation on the feasibility of applying MODIS snow cover products in cloudy weather by the employment of its integration with microwave images

Variation of snow cover area (SCA) in small to large scale catchment can be studied using MODIS snow products on daily to montly time step since the year 2000. However, one of the major problems in applying the MODIS snow products is cloud obscuration which limits the utilization of these products. In the current study, variation of SCA was investigated in Karoun basin, western part of Iran, us...

A Data Driven Approach to Bioretention Cell Performance: Prediction and Design

Bioretention cells are an urban stormwater management technology used to address both water quality and quantity concerns. A lack of region-specific design guidelines has limited the widespread implementation of bioretention cells, particularly in cold climates. In this paper, experimental data are used to construct a multiple linear regression model to predict hydrological performance of biore...

Incorporating Cold-Air Pooling into Downscaled Climate Models Increases Potential Refugia for Snow-Dependent Species within the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion, CA

We present a unique water-balance approach for modeling snowpack under historic, current and future climates throughout the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion. Our methodology uses a finer scale (270 m) than previous regional studies and incorporates cold-air pooling, an atmospheric process that sustains cooler temperatures in topographic depressions thereby mitigating snowmelt. Our results are intended t...

Antioxidant responses of Golden delicious apple under cold storage conditions. Nader Chaparzadeh* and Bahram Yavari

An understanding of biochemical events of cold storage may lead to more effective methods of preventing apple fruits from ripening and keeping their quality. This study aimed at determining the level of reduced and oxidized forms of ascorbic acid, and the activity of ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase enzymes changes in pulp of Golden delicious apple cultivar during cold s...

Assessing Performance of Bioretention Boxes in Hot and Semiarid Regions

bioretention, its applicability to a hot and semiarid region has rarely been evaluated. Existing manuals are developed primarily by studies from temperate-climate regions and focus on residential–commercial uses (3–5). Therefore, bioretention research that addresses hotclimate areas and large-scale highway conditions is needed. To apply bioretention on highway roadsides, design specifications s...
